Roma 2-0 Portimonense: Another win chalked up

Roma made it two wins from two during their training camp in Portugal, as they ran out 2-0 winners against Portimonense on Saturday evening.

Filippo Tripi and Nicolo Zaniolo scored goals in either half to confirm the result in Albufeira, in a game where Tammy Abraham missed a late penalty.

After Tuesday’s comfortable win over Sunderland this match saw the likes of Lorenzo Pellegrini, Abraham and Rui Patricio get a first run-out of pre-season – although it was one of the less high-profile starters, Tripi, who opened the scoring in clinical style after a corner fell to him inside the box.

After a slow start the Giallorossi had grown into the contest at that stage, with Pellegrini and Stephan El Shaarawy both going close.

In the second half Zaniolo hit the woodwork before eventually doubling the lead with a smart solo effort, as he and Zeki Celik both impressed with the incision in attacking areas.

When Nicola Zalewski’s run into the box was thwarted by a rogue hand with a few minutes remaining it was Abraham who had the chance to confirm the final score from the penalty spot, although the England international blasted over.

Another late Zaniolo chance was only denied by the goalkeeper, but Jose Mourinho will nevertheless have been encouraged by his side’s efforts on another hot summer’s evening.

The team are back in action on Tuesday: Sporting Club will be the opponents in nearby Faro.
