Antonello Venditti, singing “Grazie Roma,” asks what it is that makes us feel united even though we are far apart. It sounds like a verse written for you.“This Reddit community is more than just a gathering of fans: we connect almost hourly and, on match days, minute by minute. Whether discussing tactics, transfers, or simply sharing the excitement of cheering on AS Roma, this group feels like a barroom conversation that spans continents. Although many of us cannot be present in Curva Sud, we support the club loudly behind our screens, engaging with each other in this close-knit and passionate space. The way we connect, from continent to continent, reflects the incredible reach and unity of our global fan base.”
From Canada to New Zealand, from Norway to South Africa, all the way to Korea and Japan. What are the most interesting fan stories you can tell us?“There are some amazing stories and sacrifices that have been made because of supporters' love for the Giallorossi. One of the most striking stories came from a fan in Sudan who spent the last of his money on mobile data just to stream Roma’s famous comeback against Barcelona in the Champions League. He had no regrets—calling it the best money he ever spent.
"Another fan from Northern Italy recalled how, as a child in the 80s and 90s, he was the only Romanista in his town, constantly mocked by classmates who supported Juventus, Milan, and Inter. Despite the pressure, he never wavered in his loyalty to Roma, even when the club wasn’t winning trophies.
"There's a fan in Vienna who proudly hangs banners on his balcony, has a Roma tattoo, and constantly looks for ways to represent the club in his city. And a fan in India who fell in love with Roma through his studies of history, dreaming of one day making it to the Olimpico.
"One fan removed the brand badges from his car and replaced them with a Lupetto, making sure his passion for Roma is visible even on the road.
"There's even a cat named Churro, who, according to his owner, has become a wolf at heart, sitting down with the family to watch every Roma game.
“Every story highlights the deep connection that Roma fans have with the club, no matter where they are in the world. It’s more than just football—it’s a way of life.”
Is the tone of the discussions always friendly, or are some people more heated than others?"I would say that for the most part, the discussions are always respectful, but of course, there are fans with differing opinions. As with any passionate fanbase, debates are inevitable. There are often heated discussions about tactics, players, or club decisions, especially when emotions run high after big wins or tough losses. Some fans may disagree on things like lineups, managerial choices, or transfer targets, but at the end of the day, the love for the club unites us all. It’s natural for opinions to differ, but the underlying respect for the team and for each other as fellow Romanisti is what keeps things grounded.
"In a season like this, where we have experienced such a range in form – from incredible lows to now where we are – there is certainly a unity that has come over the fanbase. We must thank Claudio Ranieri for uniting us supporters, but mainly for what he has done to the product on the pitch. His leadership and ability to bring the team together have been crucial, and it’s helped strengthen our collective bond as fans.”
Do you also engage with some non-Roma fans, or is yours a closed community?"The AS Roma Subreddit page is open to the public, so anyone can partake in posting or commenting on different topics or debates. While it's not overly common for supporters of other clubs to participate in discussions, there have been occasions where fans from other Italian teams or European clubs have come to share their thoughts and ask questions about Roma, specific players, or our recent performances.
"There have also been moments where supporters of other teams have congratulated Roma and offered a great deal of respect to the club, particularly in regards to our fanbase and the loyalty we show. Many people have seen the Curva Sud, our away-traveling fans, and the passion we have for the club, and have gotten caught up in the incredible songs and displays that we put on. This appreciation from rival fans just further highlights the unique atmosphere and dedication that defines Roma supporters."
Have friendships been born that you later cultivate outside of Reddit? Have any of you managed to meet even far from the Stadio Olimpico?“One thing that has come out of this project is that many supporters who have shared their locations have realized that there are other fans from the same general areas on the Reddit page, and they’ve been amazed by the connections. Discussions have taken place about getting together to watch matches, which is a cool thing to witness.
“Another really interesting aspect is the number of Roma fan clubs that exist around the world. For example, there are Roma Clubs in New York, Toronto, Washington, Montreal, Chicago, and many others across the globe. It’s great to see how the bond among Roma fans transcends borders and leads to the creation of fan communities that extend beyond the digital world.”
"Now we know where we Romanisti are and we hope it will help those in far-flung corners realize they are not alone and they can get in touch with other Giallorossi brothers to share their love for all things AS Roma."
