EuroJapan Cup: Spoils shared in first meeting

An enthusiastic crowd in Aichi Prefecture were not rewarded with any goals during the 90 minutes, although Roger Ibanez and Nemanja Matic were among those to go close for the Giallorossi.

Nagoya, who finished eighth in the recently-completed J-League season, had a couple of half-chances of their own - although Mile Svilar was undoubtedly the less busy of the two goalkeepers.

Ibanez's rebound that clattered against the crossbar - after Benjamin Tahirovic nearly beat the goalkeeper from distance - was the closest either side game to a decisive goal.

Coach Jose Mourinho made a number of changes over the course of the game, although Nemanja Matic, Chris Smalling and Tammy Abraham all completed the 90 minutes.

The Giallorossi are back in action on Monday - they face Japanese champions Yokohama F. Marinos at Tokyo's Japan National Stadium.
