Roma 2-2 Athletic Club: Pellegrini salvages draw

Pellegrini converted from 12 yards - after the Giallorossi were perhaps fortuituous to be awarded the chance - to clinch a draw, against an Athletic side who twice took the lead in Perugia.

Iker Muniain opened the scoring in the first half, only for Aleksandar Kolarov to cancel out that tap-in with an absolutely breathtaking free-kick early in the second half.

Raul Garcia then scored from the spot to restore the Basque side's advantage, only for Pellegrini's late replica to ensure the spoils were shared.

Yuri Berchiche was also sent off for the Liga outfit.

Once again coach Paulo Fonseca opted to use many of his options, with every outfield player who made the trip getting a chance to impress at the Stadio Renato Curi.

Gregoire Defrel got his first start of pre-season, as was the unfortunate victim as Yuri was shown his marching orders. He was replaced late on by Edin Dzeko.

Roma struggled for fluency at times, although Cengiz Under and Diego Perotti both looked dangerous throughout the first half.

In the second, the introduction of Kolarov had an impact - and not just with his free-kick.

The Giallorossi are back in action on Sunday, as they host Real Madrid at the Stadio Olimpico in the Mabel Green Cup.
