Roma 0-3 Porto: Match report, reaction and key statistics

TOp

Roma will play in the Europa League this season after losing out to Porto in their Champions League play-off tie on Tuesday

The Portuguese side won 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico to progress from the tie 4-1 on aggregate, in a game that saw the Giallorossi shown two red cards.

Daniele De Rossi and Emerson Palmieri were dismissed either side of half-time, after Luciano Spalletti's side fell behind on the night to Felipe's eighth-minute header.

And the numerical disadvantage proved too much for the hosts, as late goals from substitute Miguel Layun and winger Jesus Corona secured victory for Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

Team selection

Luciano Spaletti said before the game that he had only a couple of decisions to make about his XI, and true to his word the lineup was largely similar to the one that started at the Estadio do Dragao six days earlier.

Wojciech Szczesny replaced Alisson in goal as Bruno Peres came in at right-back in place of the injured Alessandro Florenzi, but beyond that the only change saw Leandro Paredes come in for the suspended Thomas Vermaelen – with Daniele De Rossi dropping into central defence as a result.

De Rossi also captained the side, with Francesco Totti once again among the substitutes.
