A new pathway for AS Roma's male and female players has been inaugurated at the Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico in Trigoria, with Giallorossi decor leading from the outside into the heart of the structure. The route is dominated by the colours yellow and red, together with the club crest and some photos of key moments in Roma history.
Meanwhile, the new sports medicine clinic has also been given AS Roma branding, and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and equipment to be used by footballers undergoing medical check-ups and fitness tests, as well as all the facility's patients. This includes an ultrasound machine for performing echocardiograms and spirometry tests as well as cycle ergometer exertion and cardiopulmonary tests.
These new areas - designed with the needs of the Roma players in mind – were officially unveiled on 10 March at a ceremony attended by club management, together with senior men's player Niccolo Pisilli, senior women's player Elena Linari, Primavera youngster Mattia Mannini and representatives of the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico. Among those attending on behalf of the clinic were president Carlo Tosti and CEO and general manager Paolo Sormani, while technical director Florent Ghisolfi was representing AS Roma.
The initiative is part of the three-year partnership between the club and the Trigoria-based polyclinic, AS Roma's Official Medical Partner for 2024-25, 2025-26 and 2026-27 seasons.
"It’s a strategic partnership that fills us with satisfaction and gives us the desire to put things into action," declared Paolo Sormani. "The agreement reaffirms our commitment to constant growth - for example, in the fields of sports medicine and diagnostic imaging – which is supported by significant investments in research, development and technology. I’d also include artificial intelligence and robotics, to make treatments and diagnoses increasingly effective and in-depth.
“All of our patients have already begun to benefit from such improvements, further cementing our iron-clad and unbreakable bond with the city of Rome and this region in particular. This is also done with a view to supporting the most vulnerable through the many social initiatives we are involved in, which are also in collaboration with AS Roma.”
"We’re honoured that our players can make use of a centre of excellence such as the Policlinico Campus Bio-Medico,” offered AS Roma Chief Administrative Officer & General Counsel Lorenzo Vitali. “This partnership is the natural product of a shared vision that has seen us already carry out many initiatives related to health and prevention. We’ve been able to see first-hand the quality and efficiency of the facilities that our players will make use of over the next three years.”
The partnership – whose medical representatives are the head of Sports Traumatology and Deputy Scientific Director of the Policlinico Campus Bio-Medico Umile Giuseppe Longo, AS Roma Head Medical Doctor Roberto Vannicelli and club consultant Georg Ahlbaumer – doesn’t just cover sports medicine. It also encompasses diagnostic imaging with cutting-edge equipment and the support of artificial intelligence, as well as therapeutic activities aimed at the recovery of athletes as and when required. The agreement is rounded off with the provision of emergency services at the Stadio Olimpico for fans as well as the players and technical staff of the first men's and women's teams, Primavera and all youth teams.
