Paulo Dybala speaks after Porto triumph

Here’s what our Argentine forward had to say…

You bagged a brace and played fantastically. How are you feeling?

"Thanks for the compliments – it’s always a pleasure. After Porto got their goal we showed the character of a great team, with great individual personality on the pitch. It was tense at the beginning and that meant we were more aggressive when competing for every ball. When we scored we grew in belief, thanks to the fans’ encouragement as well.”

How did the standing ovation feel? You’ve always been cherished by the Roma faithful.

"I’ve always said that the love I get from the fans isn’t just confined to the pitch – I get a great reception off it as well, when I’m out and about. There’s nothing quite like it – it feels amazing. We know that there have been lots of negatives this season and we’re aware that we can get a lot out of Europe. In recent years we’ve made it to some finals and some of us ended up winning trophies. We’ve got a great chance to win this Europa League and we said as much in the dressing room before the game.”

What role is Claudio Ranieri playing for this Roma side?

"Since he came into the club – during a fraught time – through his experience, expertise and intricate knowledge of Roma he’s been able to get the best out of each and every player. He does what’s best for the team and he doesn't judge anyone by their reputation. That’s important, because he gives us equal opportunities to play if we train as best as we can. I think the results from this are there for all to see. Now we just have to move forward, not give up and continue like this."

Did you want to send out a message to your team through what you did leading to your yellow card?

"I don’t think it was a positive but it’s something that came to me given the tension of that moment. There was an argument that lasted a few seconds which led to all of us digging deeper. We’re happy because it ultimately resulted in us winning the game.”

Would you prefer to face Lazio or Athletic in the round of 16?

"I’d be happy with either. I know what you want me to say, but you’re already aware of what that is (laughs, ed.).”
