“Together with Roma to give life”: blood donation in Campidoglio for Valentine’s Day

AS Roma and Roma Capitale are launching a new blood donation initiative in support of young patients in the Paediatric Oncology Department at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS.

The campaign, supported by the Francesco Olgiati Blood Donors Group (ODV), AVIS Comunale Roma UDR and the Franco e Maria Sensi Association, is a joint effort by AS Roma and Roma Capitale, in collaboration with the Presidency of the Capitoline Assembly. It aims to encourage people to perform a true act of solidarity and love on Valentine’s Day.

The event is scheduled for 14 February from 8:00 to 13:00 in the iconic setting of Piazza del Campidoglio.

This initiative follows those organised by the club in 2023 in Garbatella and Foro Italico, which saw hundreds of Roma supporters take part. It also symbolically renews the first Insieme alla Roma per donare la vita (together with Roma to give life) campaign, which AS Roma, under the Franco Sensi presidency, successfully carried out between 2005 and 2010.

The goal of the day is to increase blood donations, contributing to regional transfusion self-sufficiency, with a particular focus on supporting young patients suffering from oncological and haematological diseases.

    Important recommendations:

    • Donations are open to individuals aged between 18 and 65, who meet medical eligibility criteria and weigh no less than 50kg.

    • Men can donate up to four times a year, with a minimum interval of 90 days.

    • Women of childbearing age can donate up to twice a year, with a minimum interval of 90 days.

    • It is necessary to fast before donating, although a light breakfast with liquid-rich, low-fat foods is allowed. Suitable options include fruit juice, freshly squeezed juice, coffee, tea with dry toast (with or without jam or honey) and two or three plain biscuits. Milk and dairy products are strictly prohibited.
