Not having the gift of sight and needing to give up the pleasure of playing football is an obstacle that now belongs in the past. This is the lesson that Roma Blind Football conveys every day thanks to the wise guidance of coach Sauro Cimarelli, who specialises in teaching football to visually impaired athletes.
AS Roma, which has long supported this team of extraordinary players, returned to visit the Italian Paralympic Committee in Via delle Tre Fontane – where the team trains – to renew its support for the next year, bring greetings from Romolo and the club to the players and coaches, and exchange Christmas wishes.
On 11 December, a special training session took place, attended by Primavera players Cristian Cama, Federico Coletta, Alessandro Di Nunzio, Mattia Mannini, Fabrizio Marazzotti and Filippo Reale, as well as former 1983 Serie A champion Sebino Nela, who was excited to meet this special team.
The youth players wore a special blindfold to simulate blindness, facing the challenges that a blind football player encounters using the special sound ball required by the sport.
At the end of the day, the club handed out Christmas gifts and sent its best wishes for the upcoming year to Roma Blind Football, one of the many disability-related initiatives that are part of the Giallorossi community and a model of inclusion for the entire football scene in the Italian capital.
