Saelemaekers comments before Braga clash

Here’s what the Roma winger had to say ahead of the Europa League game against Braga.

You’re a versatile player. You played behind a mobile forward against Lecce. Do you like that position? Or do you prefer it on the wing?

“That’s also a position that I like. The coach had asked me where I felt more comfortable. Whether I’m central, out wide or as a wing-back, it’s about wherever I can help the team, I’ll do it. The important thing is for the team to get points. My performances come second. I’m happy if I can help, regardless of the role.”

How have you found your time at Roma these past months? Do you want to extend your stay?

“I’ve felt really good right from the start, like being part of a family. What’s important to me is playing football and helping the team. As for what will happen in the future, we’ll see. It’s not just up to me. For now, the important thing is Roma. My mind is on Roma.”

What’s the atmosphere like in the dressing room?

“The atmosphere hasn’t changed. It’s been the same since the start of the season when I arrived. There’s a desire to do well and work hard. As for what’s gone on, these things happen... We’ve had a bit of bad luck, along with other factors. As players, we have always been professional and have always given everything in training. The return of [Claudio] Ranieri has given us an extra push to try to climb back up and that’s what we’re working on and will keep working on until the end of the season.”

How are you? Have you regained your calmness? How do you see your future at Roma?

“It’s true that this injury was a very difficult period because I’m not someone who gets injured often. It was the first time in my career when I’ve had to deal with such a tough situation. It’s true that De Rossi wanted me, but I came to Roma as a club, and what’s important is to do well here and bring Roma back to where the club belongs. For the future, I hope to be a key player until the end of the season. I’ll do my best and try to help the team.”
