The club will offer a real-time sign language simultaneous translation service of press conferences on their official channels for deaf viewers, continuing the initiative launched last year. This was thanks to the valuable contribution of Toyota Motor Italia and KINTO, who support the ‘Overcoming the Obstacles’ project dedicated to the world of disability.
The translation service, which uses a pool of interpreters from the Giallorossi community and the ‘Gruppo Sordi Romanisti’, will resume for Ivan Juric’s pre-match conference on Saturday 21 September on the eve of Roma v Udinese.
The following day, when the ‘Roma Roma’ anthem begins prior to kick-off at the Stadio Olimpico, the stadium’s screens will broadcast the translation of the song’s lyrics into LIS thanks to the work of the same group of interpreters. This initiative by AS Roma - who are the first Serie A club to have implemented such a service - was trialled on a one-off basis for a match in 2023/24 and will now be offered for the entire Serie A season, allowing spectators to always experience one of the most hotly-anticipated and exciting moments for Giallorossi fans in an inclusive manner.
Through these two initiatives, AS Roma and the Toyota Group - inspired by the principles established by the General Assembly of the United Nations - want to contribute to promoting the legal recognition of national sign languages and quality education in a bilingual context, safeguarding the full implementation and execution of the human rights of the deaf community.
