Ohale impressed by spirit as she joins up with new teammates

After playing experience in Nigeria, the United States, Sweden and Spain, Ohale moves to the Italian capital to add quality and experience to coach Betty Bavagnoli's defensive core - and is looking forward to getting going.

“I decided to chose Roma because of so many things," she said. "So many amazing things about the club, about this city and this country that interested me.

"So I felt like it would be a great thing for me, to explore and to experience new things and a new challenge.”

She added: "It's an interesting league. I’m ready to learn and do whatever. Obviously I am expecting an interesting league, more challenging and I think I will learn more and add more for my career.”

The 28-year-old, a veteran of three World Cup appearances and four Africa Cup of Nations victories with her country, has already been amazed by the camaraderie and team spirit shown with the group.

"My first impression of my teammates... well, I saw them and I was like, ‘This is a family,'" Ohale said.

"They are so welcoming. They are all easy to get on with and so cheerful.

"Everyone is talking to everyone, everyone is interacting with everyone… so I see a very big team, a family. Those are my first impressions.”

Ohale will compete with the likes of Allyson Swaby and Tecla Pettenuzzo for a place in Bavagnoli's side.

She said: “The sort of defender I am, I would say I am very, very strong. I’m very, very fast, I’m good at reading the game and I’m also very good in physical battles too. There’s so much more I could mention!

“That is why I am here, to help the team to get to all their targets, because it is an amazing club – as I said – with so much ambition.

"And I also want to [qualify to] play in the Champions League, because I have never played in the Champions League before.”
