Valdezate and Pandini participate in “A Scuola di Tifo – Amami e Basta” event against gender-based violence

A new event, entirely female-led, was held as part of the educational project “A Scuola di Tifo – Willy Monteiro”, which AS Roma has been running in local high schools since 2015, aimed at providing tools to understand and tackle significant social issues.

On 22 October, two players from Roma Women’s championship-winning team, Oihane Valdezate and Marta Pandini, visited I.P.S.S.E.O.A. Amerigo Vespucci secondary school in the Collatino district.

Approximately 70 students from the six participating final-year classes had the opportunity to hear from the players on topics such as discrimination and gender-based violence, which AS Roma actively addresses within its community through the “Amami e Basta” (Just Love Me) project.

Valdezate and Pandini, who shared their experiences as footballers who fight against prejudice and discrimination every day, encouraged the girls not to be scared of coming forward if they are ever the victims of abuse or bullying. This sort of contribution underpins the key role played by every Roma Women player as part of this project, for which they are all committed and proactive ambassadors.

“It’s always a pleasure to participate in the projects that the club organises within the community and to offer our contribution to support these social campaigns,” commented Valdezate. “These events are incredibly emotional and enriching for us.”

Pandini also expressed how pleased she was to be involved: “It’s great to see so many boys and girls tackling complex issues like gender-based violence alongside us. It proves that football can be taken into schools and bring enormous benefits.”

This initiative continues as part of the campaign launched by the Club in November 2020, which has involved thousands of fans over the years, aiming to raise awareness and a sense of responsibility around an issue that unfortunately remains prevalent. The “Amami e Basta” project aims to go beyond raising awareness by seeking to create an active and tangible dialogue involving society as a whole. Thanks to the dedication of Roma Women’s players, the message that love cannot be confused with possession or violence becomes even stronger.
