Roma Women 4-1 Sparta Prague: UWCL group stage secured!

Roma Women overcame an early scare on Thursday afternoon to book their place in the group stage of this season's UEFA Women's Champions League in style.

The Giallorosse, leading 2-1 against Sparta Prague after last week's first leg in the Czech Republic, ran out eventual 4-1 winners in Rome - earning a standing ovation from a packed crowd at Stadio Tre Fontane.

After Sparta had taken the lead - against the run of play - to level things up on aggregate, Carina Wenninger's header ensured Alessandro Spugna's side had their advantage back by half-time.

Then, in the second half, the great quality of the home side really came to the fore; as Andressa Alves, Moeka Minami and Emilie Haavi all got on the scoresheet to ensure victory on the day and in the tie.

"This is a big achievement for us," coach Alessandro Spugna said afterwards.

"We are delighted, we put in two great performances. We started today with a small advantage, but that was cancelled out in the first 20 minutes.

"But we did really well to take control of the match once again, to take things into our own hands and create so many chances and score as many goals as we did.

"It was an amazing display in front of a great show of support."

Having come from behind in both legs to win 6-2 on aggregate, the Giallorosse have already shown their resolve on countless occasions this season.

The draw for the group stage of the competition will take place on Monday, with Roma joining 15 of Europe's top sides in waiting to find out who they will face.

"Today was too important for us," said Andressa.

"It was our ambition to reach the Champions League group stage in front of our fans. We are delighted to have achieved that."
