AS Roma and Caritas launch Food for the Community project to collect surplus food from hospitality areas

AS Roma’s initiative to collect surplus food from its hospitality areas for local communities in need is set to continue with a new partner.

Thanks to the collaboration with the Diocesan Caritas of Rome, which will identify the recipients of surplus food from the Stadio Olimpico’s catering services, through the Food for the Community project – will continue the initiative, which has so far collected an impressive five tonnes of food for donation to aid organisations, parishes and care homes in Rome.

AS Roma and Caritas, who have collaborated for some time on community-focused initiatives, inaugurated the partnership before the first team’s showdown with Torino kicked off, in the presence of the club’s General Counsel Lorenzo Vitali, the Director of the Diocesan Caritas of Rome Giustino Trincia, and some of the staff members of Relais Le Jardin, the catering provider at the Stadio Olimpico.

“Collecting our surplus food is an essential gesture and has long been part of our regular matchday organisational activities,” said AS Roma’s General Counsel, Lorenzo Vitali. “This initiative not only serves as a gesture of solidarity, but also a commitment to a fairer, more sustainable community, an objective that our ownership pursues with conviction and which we are delighted to share with a highly reliable and serious partner like Caritas.”

“We are pleased to join the Food for the Community project, which further strengthens our collaboration with AS Roma and our commitment to tackling food poverty by turning waste into a resource to support the most vulnerable,” stated the Director of Caritas Rome, Giustino Trincia. “Every year, our kitchens distribute approximately 320,000 meals to over 10,000 people. Food for the Community is an important sign of care for those in need and with the approach of the 2025 Jubilee, we hope it will help to spread the value of solidarity among Roma fans and the citizens of Rome.”
