Mourinho: We didn't do enough to get the win

See what the boss had to say after Sunday's 0-0 draw with Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico...

Here’s what Jose Mourinho had to say following Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico.

The hosts had the majority of the openings but both sides will have gone away from the game perhaps thinking they could have taken the three points.

    Here’s Mourinho’s verdict…

Perhaps a different result was expected tonight – how much of that is down to the performance of your side?

“The game lacked quality. The team that wanted to win tonight did not do enough to win and the side that didn’t come here to win played the way they wanted to play. And the referee let them do that. It was a game that lacked real quality.”

Was tiredness after the game against Leicester on Thursday a factor in that?

“Absolutely. They were both factors: last week’s game and the one coming this Thursday. We are in a great situation, but it’s a tough one too: after the next game [on Thursday] we will have played 14 games in Europe this season and that, alongside the league, is really very difficult. Leicester today rested nine players [against Tottenham].

“The situation is tough for us, but our aim tonight was still to win the game. We tried that, we wasted a few opportunities and then after that the game became much tougher for us. So that’s on us, we did not play well enough, but it is also on them because they played the sort of game they wanted to. And it’s also on the referee, who was never worried about the quality of the spectacle and let them do that.”

Can you explain why you decided to make those four substitutions together?

“Obviously I tried to introduce more quality into the game, but we didn’t get the impact that perhaps I was thinking. Of the four players that came on, I can say that Lorenzo Pellegrini and Rick Karsdorp had a positive impact, whereas Tammy Abraham and Nicola Zalewski didn’t come in and do so well – they came on for 30 minutes but really they were only properly involved in 15 or so of those. We had a few chances to score but not enough.”
