1. Luciano Spalletti was born in Certaldo, a Province of Florence in Italy.

2. The Italian coach, whose teams have always been known to play attacking football, has a +309 goal differential with the seven teams he has managed, amassing 1,197 goals.

3. Spalletti has managed seven teams, including two spells with Udinese and now at Roma.

4. Over the course of his management career, Spalletti has won six trophies in Italy and Russia.

5. In 2006, Spalletti set a new record for consecutive wins in Serie A – eleven in total - and was voted Serie A Coach of the Year that same year.

6. Luciano enjoyed a career in football as a player before making the successful switch to the dugout - playing for Serie C teams Entella, Spezia, Viareggio and Empoli.

7. Spalletti is known and often credited with pioneering the 4-2-3-1 formation, often played with no formal striker.

8. At Zenit St. Petersburg, his team went 21 games undefeated in the Russian Premier league and won the league as well as the Russian cup in his first season.

9. Roma’s new coach holds the record for most consecutive Italian Supercoppa final appearances as a manager with three.
