Appearing alongside Rudi Garcia at the pre-match press conference ahead of the visit of Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday night, Szczesny stated he will be 100% committed to Roma for as long as he is playing in the Italian capital.
“I want my comments to be properly understood,” the Polish goalkeeper explained when quizzed about his comments about one-day returning to Arsenal. “I’m still under contact with Arsenal so if they wanted me back I would have to go back there. But as I’ve said, I’m very happy to be here at Roma and I will absolutely give my all for this club for as long as I’m here. Whether that’s one season or ten, I’ll always give 100%. We’ll speak about the future when the time comes, but for now I’m happy here and am giving my all for the team.”
How are you finding life at Roma and how would you judge your performances so far?
“I love it here. The city is beautiful, the weather is great and I’m very happy. It’s a huge honor for me to play for this club. All I can do is give my all every single day to repay the faith of the coach and his staff.”
What shape are you in after your injury?
“After the injury, I didn’t feel like I was in the shape I wanted to be in for a few weeks, but now I’m fine and I’m ready to help the team.”
Do you see Javier Hernandez as the biggest threat to Roma tomorrow night?
“He’s a great striker and we knew that. He played for massive clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid before joining Leverkusen. He scored twice in the match in Germany and tomorrow we’ll make sure that doesn’t happen again.”
With the Rome derby fast approaching, how did you react when you found out that the Lazio players have put up a photo of you celebrating Atalanta’s goal against them in their dressing room?
“That’s not my problem. Right now I’m only focused on tomorrow’s match, not what happens in the Lazio dressing room.”
