Alisson: Five of the biggest influences on my career

Alisson

We spoke to the goalkeeper about the individuals that have helped him get to where he is today...

“There are lots of people that have helped me over the course of my career in football, from when I started at the age of nine to where I am today – a Roma player.

“I’ll start with the two most important people in my life: my parents Jose and Magali. They raised me and taught me to do good and follow my dreams. My father always used to say 'dream big and you will become big' – it’s something I’ll never forget. Little by little, I’m achieving my objectives and making my dreams come true.”

“On a professional level, my brother Muriel really helped me and has always been a source of inspiration. As well as growing up with him at home, I was lucky enough to work alongside him for four years when we were both at Internacional together.

"He helped me to develop as a player. When I made the step up to professional football, he was the starting goalkeeper. He did a lot for me and I used to watch him all the time. We still speak regularly because he was – and will always be – an incredibly important person to me.”

“It’s hard to pick out just five people, but another person that had a big influence was Abel Braga. He was the Internacional coach in 2014 and was the man who made me the starting goalie.”

“Another person that was big help during my time in the Internacional youth academy was Durgue Vidal. He was there for eight of my ten years in the academy and he taught me a huge amount. Virtually everything I’ve learned about the technical side of goalkeeping came from him.”

“I learned a great deal from other coaches too, including Daniel Pavan, who later became a close friend to me and my family. When I became a professional, he was made the assistant goalkeeping coach so I was able to continue working with him.”
