Alberto De Rossi takes on new position within youth sector

The club is pleased to announce that Alberto De Rossi has been appointed the club’s new Head of Youth Coach Development.

De Rossi, 64, takes on the role after recently guiding the club’s Primavera side to the national title game this week, capping off a stint in charge of the Under-19s that has made him the longest-serving coach of the most senior youth age group in the club’s history.

His new role will now see him focus on imparting his vast skills and experience to coaches throughout the club’s academy, ensuring the players being developed by the Giallorossi are offered the best possible advice, guidance and instruction.

“I am delighted to be able to continue my working relationship with this club, a relationship I consider to be unique and deeply felt,” De Rossi said.

“I immediately felt energised by the vision that was laid out to me by Vincenzo Vergine and the club, and I cannot wait to put my experience at the service of all of the coaches of age groups throughout Roma’s youth sector.”

In 29 years as a coach with the AS Roma academy system, De Rossi made history with the Primavera – coaching them for an incredible 19 seasons and 740 matches.

In that time his teams won three Scudetti, two Coppa Italia titles and two Italian Supercups.

What is more, countless players who finished their youth careers under his tutelage went on to establish themselves either in the Roma first team or at professional clubs around Italy and the world, with many of them also going on to earn international honours.

“Given the project we are pursuing, there is no way we could deprive ourselves of the extraordinary professional experience and skills Alberto De Rossi has,” said Vincenzo Vergine, the club’s Head of Youth Development.

“I am certain that his wealth of knowledge, both in coaching and people management, will be hugely significant in the continuing growth and development of our coaches – something I consider to be a vital resource that we must ensure we are always investing in.

“I would like to offer Alberto my very best wishes for his new challenge; I also feel it is my duty to sincerely thank him, on behalf of the club, for the incredible contribution he has made to Roma throughout his career as a coach.”

De Rossi will focus on working with the coaches who operate from Under-15 to Under-18 level within the club, assisting them as they guide the club’s young players through a crucial phase of their development.
