Chievo 3-3 Roma: 9 facts and figures

Chievo 3-3 Roma: 9 facts and figures

We look back at Roma's first match of 2016, a 3-3 draw with Chievo at the Stadio Bentegodi, through nine select stats

1

Maicon wore the captain's armband for the first time against Chievo, becoming the seventh player to skipper the Giallorossi from the start of a game this season. The Brazilian right-back follows in the footsteps of Daniele De Rossi, Francesco Totti, Alessandro Florenzi, Radja Nainggolan, Seydou Keita and Miralem Pjanic. Chievo v Roma was the first time a new Roma captain hasn't led the team to victory this term. Rudi Garcia's men claimed all three points when Florenzi and Nainggolan first took the armband, against Udinese and Lazio respectively. Seydou Keita and Miralem Pjanic had previously captained the team last season, away to Genoa (a 1-0 win) and Palermo (1-1) respectively.

4

Wednesday's 3-3 draw with Chievo was only the fourth time that a Roma team coached by Rudi Garcia has failed to win after leading at the interval, and the first time that has happened this season. The Giallorossi have gone on to seal victory 46 times when they have been in front after 45 minutes under the French tactician. Of the three previous occasions when they didn't manage it, two came back to back against Torino and Sassuolo in 2013-14 after they had opened the season with a record-breaking 10-match winning run. The other was in Moscow against CSKA in November 2014. Chievo v Roma was also the fourth time this season that the Giallorossi have surrendered a winning position, all of them coming away from home: Bayer Leverkusen, Bologna, Torino and now Chievo.

7

Sadiq Umar and Alessandro Florenzi both found the net for the second game running in Verona, having scored in the 2-0 win over Genoa prior to the Christmas break. Seven Giallorossi players have now netted in two consecutive competitive matches this season – a feat previously achieved by Mohamed Salah, Gervinho, Miralem Pjanic, Daniele De Rossi and Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian striker currently holds the longest scoring streak this term, hitting the target in back-to-back fixtures against Bayer Leverkusen, Lazio, Bologna and Barcelona.

8

Roma's 3-3 draw at the Bentegodi is the eighth time they have shared the spoils with Chievo in Verona. Their record in all competitions is five wins (all in Serie A), eight draws (one in the Coppa Italia) and one defeat (in the league). It was the first time six goals have been shared between the sides at the Bentegodi following three 0-0s, four 2-2s and a 4-4.

20

Alessandro Florenzi has now scored 20 goals for Roma in all competitions. His first-half strike at the Bentegodi – his first-ever goal against Chievo - takes his Serie A tally to 18 and puts him on five for the season, level with Edin Dzeko. Leading the way in the Giallorossi scoring charts is Miralem Pjanic with nine to his name, followed by Gervinho on seven and Mohamed Salah on six. Umar Sadiq, having scored twice in three first-team appearances, has the best goals-to-games ratio.

23

With yesterday's three in Verona, the Giallorossi have now plundered 23 goals on the road this season, averaging 1.77 goals per game – their highest since 2008-09 (1.85).

40%

Roma's tenth draw in 25 competitive fixtures this term means they have now drawn exactly 40% of the games – the same as their win percentage. It is the Giallorossi's highest percentage of drawn games since 2001-02, when they reached 39.2%. Last year the figure was 34%, doubling the 16,6% of draws in 2013-14, the only season when Roma weren't involved in European competition during Garcia's time in charge.

150

Alessandro Florenzi reached the 150-game milestone for the Giallorossi in Chievo v Roma. 126 of those appearances have been in Serie A.

500

Chievo have now played 500 matches in the national Serie A championship, 67 years after Roma reached the same figure. The Giallorossi's 500th game in the Italian top flight was a 2-1 defeat away to Livorno on 13 March 1949. Imre Senkey was the man in the dugout that day, while Amadeo Amadei scored Roma's goal from the spot. Taking all top-flight fixtures into consideration, Roma hit the 500-match mark on 6 January 1946 – exactly 70 years ago before Chievo's 500th against Roma – when Omero Urilli and Naim Krieziu netted in a 2-1 Giallorossi win over Palermo at Rome's Stadio Nazionale.
