    Ranieri's post-Genoa interview

Claudio Ranieri spoke to Sky Sport Italia after Roma overcame Genoa 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico.

Here's what the boss had to say...

That's six straight wins at the Olimpico in all competitions for Roma now.

“It was no mean feat because [Patrick] Viera has come in and straightened the ship at Genoa. It wasn't easy for us to find a way through his web of shirts. We managed it and then we conceded from a set piece, which I couldn't believe, but it's part and parcel of the game.

“It was really tough but we kept plugging away because we wanted this win to thank the 62,000 Roma rans who came out on a Friday evening – an incredible number! I thought we might get 30,000-35,000, but it was double that. We must do everything we can to repay our supporters, whose love for us knows no limits.

“When the fans were protesting it was the result of too much love. The fans always expect the best and what I say to the players is, 'Let's always give it our best, because if we don't get the result we want but I know you've given your all, that's the most important thing for me.'”

I'd like to ask you about two quality players: Paulo Dybala, who has never played eight games in a row and who produced another 'Dybala' performance tonight, and Stephan El Shaarawy, who's often started games on the bench without ever complaining and has now scored 64 goals for the club.

“He's a top lad, but they all are. Seeing how they train... I told the players that I need all of them because when the matches are coming thick and fast we need to be able to start each game fresh and always give 100%. It won't be easy but we'll try.

“El Shaarawy is one of our most experienced players and I know I can always count on him.”

I think you have a good chance in Europe, especially considering Roma's European record in recent years. Do you agree?

“I'm just thinking of one game at a time. Obviously in Europe it's in or out. We have two big matches coming up, first away to AZ and then at home to Eintracht. We'll try to get another result in the Netherlands. It won't be easy but we'll give it our best shot. We're ready. The lads are in great mental and physical shape. We'll see how far we can go.”

I don't think you'll be in the dugout next season – or will you?

“I don't want to say anything more because I've already said once that I was retiring and here I am, still here with you. We'll see... I decided a year ago that I wanted to retire!”
