Within the Marcigliana nature reserve, some athletes with intellectual and relational disabilities from the AS Roma for Special team competed in a small-sided match against a selection of rangers from the Roma Natura Regional Authority to promote outdoor sports as an extraordinary tool for integration and inclusion.
The initiative is part of the UEFA Sustainability Strategy 2030 Climate & Advocacy policy, which the club adheres to, and took place during European Parks Week, scheduled from 18 to 26 May to emphasise the importance of preserving natural habitats and connecting people with nature to help them get to know, appreciate and protect it.
The event also featured club mascot Romolo, who distributed Roma-themed gadgets to 60 children from the Convitto Nazionale (national boarding school) present in the park. The club served up a healthy and tasty lunch, further enriching the overall experience. The children participated in numerous outdoor activities managed by the park rangers to get closer to nature and playing sport, with the aim of learning to respect the environment and recognise the value of natural parks.
