    International: Italy book their World Cup spot in style


    Italy booked their place at the 2023 Women's World Cup on Tuesday night, as they beat Romania to clinch top spot in their qualification group.

    Italy booked their place at the 2023 Women's World Cup on Tuesday night, as they beat Romania to clinch top spot in their qualification group.

    Roma Women forward Valentina Giacinti scored the opening goal in the all-important 2-0 win, with Lisa Boattin clinching the contest with 15 minutes remaining in Ferrara.

    There was a strong Giallorosse presence throughout the night; Giada Greggi, Elisa Bartoli and Manuela Giugliano all started the game alongside Giacinti.

    Benedetta Glionna and Lucia Di Guglielmo, meanwhile, all entered the fray off the substitute's bench.

    Elsewhere it was a night to remember for Sophie Roman Haug, who notched a hat-trick as Norway beat Albania 5-0.

    Norway have already booked their spot at the World Cup in Australia next year.

    Defender Carina Wenninger also found herself on the scoresheet; the captain scoring in the 10-0 win over North Macedonia.
