Mural for Alberto Sordi is officially unveiled

Just over a century on from his birth, a part of Garbatella will now forever live in memory of Alberto Sordi

On Tuesday afternoon a special mural in homage to the famous, beloved Roman entertainer was formally presented - following its creation by the street artist Lucamaleonte.

The initiative is the latest in a long line from Roma Cares, as the club's charity arm looks to help reconnect the city with its recent heritage, in what is the year of the 150th anniversary of Rome's ascension to becoming capital of Italy.

Previous murals have been unveiled to two other Rome icons, Gigi Proietti and Anna Magnani.

The club was represented at the official ceremony by its External Affairs Director, Stefano Scalera.

"We are here in the heart of Rome," Scalera said. "In the heart of where our fanbase is. Alberto Sordi was a great Roma fan, but above all he was a great ambassador for Rome and the essence of being Roman."

He added: "We are proud of this mural, created with the support of Lazio Regione and ATER. As a club we have a responsibility - both on and off the pitch - to be as close as possible to the citizens of this city. And Roma fans above all. Because our city is also our motivation."

As an additional part of the day's events, a special plaque was also unveiled for Sordi at his childhood home, just around the corner in the same district of the city.
