On Wednesday afternoon a special mural dedicated to the late Gigi Proietti was unveiled, in the neighborhood where the beloved Italian actor grew up.
The project, a collaboration between Roma Cares, Regione Lazio and Ater Roma, was completed in the heart of the Tufello district - where a young Proietti spent his childhood years.
Titled 'D'après Gigi', the design captures Proietti in one of his most distinctive expressions.
It serves as a tribute to a beloved son of the city, who as an actor brought such joy and laughter to so many people.
Capable of blending high culture with low, Proietti had the rare capacity to unite fans of all types with his easy charm and undeniable talent.
He passed away last Monday, on his 80th birthday.
"We wanted to create a tribute to Gigi in the area where he grew up," said Nicola Zingaretti, president of Regione Lazio.
"An initiative from Regione Lazio, together with Ater Roma and the Roma Cares foundation, to say 'Thank you Gigi' forever. It's another way to keep his smile and his unique expression in our minds."
Roma CEO Guido Fienga added: "We are proud to be able to pay tribute to Gigi Proietti with this mural.
"Proietti always considered the suburbs to be where real change first starts: that's just another reason why we are so pleased to be able to donate, thanks to the support of our foundation, an image of this extraordinary artist in the area where he grew up."
