Olsen faces the media as he embarks on Roma adventure

The Sweden international, a summer signing from FC Copenhagen, is the new Giallorossi No. 1 - and is looking forward to making the most of what he admits is a 'big step' in his career.

“First of all, it is very nice to be here,” Olsen said. “It is a big step for me in my career and when I got the opportunity to come here it was an easy choice for me.

“I think the people back in Sweden are happy for me. It is a big club, a massive club – everyone knows who Roma is and I think they are happy [for me].”

He added: “My first impressions have been fantastic. I was able to come in and train straight away. I had some good training sessions, and also the game against Barcelona – it feels really good to be here.”

The Sweden No. 1 perhaps has a tough task on his hands, having to follow in the footsteps of Alisson Becker – the former Giallorossi starter who was sold for a world record fee earlier in the summer.

“Alisson showed how good how good is,” Olsen said. “He showed everyone he is a fantastic footballer and goalkeeper. But they sold him and took me.

“There has been a lot of talk about taking over from Alisson. I have the biggest respect for him. But it is my job now to focus on myself, my work for this club and what I am going to do and have to do here.

“Like you say, I have played a couple of Champions League games, and also the World Cup, so I have experience from that. My biggest strength, I think, is that I always give everything – in training and the game. I always give everything and fight for what I want.”

Olsen has begun working under Roma goalkeeping coach Marco Savorani, who has a reputation in Italy as being among the finest in his role in the game. The goalkeeper is already adjusting to the new demands being placed on him.

“Savorani screams a lot,” Olsen smiled. “But I think it is good for us, for everybody who works for him. He is hard, he tells you directly what he wants, he does not hide anything and that will give us the opportunity to develop ourselves in the right way in training. I like that type of coaching.

“I want to improve with Savorani’s technique, because everything is new for me. Different needs, but I think when you have a mix of everything, from the ‘Scandinavian’ technique to this technique, then you can take a bit from each technique and improve a lot as a goalkeeper.

“But I like this type of technique now, and I like his way of coaching – being so strict and direct with his instructions. I like it a lot.”
