Fazio loving life in Rome after passing 100 games for the club

Federico Fazio has spoken about how he is enjoying his role as one of the senior figures in the Roma dressing room.

The Argentina international, who recently surpassed 100 appearances for the club, has been a regular starter since arriving to little fanfare in the summer of 2016 – but says he always felt like he could have a big role to play at the club from the day he arrived.

“I’ve really settled in well here,” Fazio told the club’s match programme.

“I’ve played more than 100 games for the club now, and I hope to play many more going forward. I’m happy here and have felt happy here from the first moment.”

On the season so far, Fazio is aware the side can still improve – starting against Sampdoria on Sunday.

“It’s the time to be positive and focus on the good things we’ve done so far,” he said. “With the fans behind us on Sunday we need to win and put more points on the board.

“From what I’ve seen so far Sampdoria are a strong side, with some great players. [Gregoire] Defrel has started the season well, and it will be nice to see him again. But we have to focus on ourselves and on picking up the three points.”

He added: “Every year the squad changes, and so does the defence. I don’t want to say if we are better or worse, but the important thing is that we find more confidence in each other with every passing game.”
