Schick delighted with goal but hopes more is to come

The relief for Patrik Schick was obvious, as he grabbed his first goal of the season in Roma's 4-1 win over Sampdoria on Sunday afternoon.

The forward - starting alone up front for the first time in this campaign - scored against his former club just before the hour-mark to make it 2-0 and effectively wrap up the game, and in the process end his recent run without a goal.

“I’ve been needing a goal, it was great to get one and I’m pleased to have been able to help the team," Schick said.

"I still need to get fully up to speed out there but I’m happy we won and to score. It will help me mentally, but I know I need to keep working. I know there will be other chances to come.”

Juan Jesus had opened the scoring for Roma in the first half, before Stephan El Shaarawy grabbed a brace following Schick's strike to complete the emphatic scoreline.

“Sampdoria are a good side that want to play football," Schick continued.

"After the break they had to change about because they were behind – they gave up some space and we were able to score. In the second half we played a bit better and score three goals.

"It’s important to pick up where we left off after the international break."
