“We worship football players like Gods," Dominique told asroma.com when asked about the inspiration behind his work."So why not make artworks of them as if they were Gods?”
The artworks, measuring in 100cm x 100cm in size, feature some wonderful detail close up with a mixture of graphic pen and paint splashes. From concept to production to framing, it can take Dominique up to 25 hours to complete each piece.
“I’ve been an artist my entire life and worked as an art director for a football magazine in Belgium for eight years,” continued Dominique, “and I love sports and football in particular. I’m addicted to strong expressions, so where else can we find emotions more lively than in sports?”
Nainggolan was an natural subject choice for his work, given the Belgian’s hero status in his homeland, but Dominique was also drawn to Totti and De Rossi in particular.
“I watch all the Roma matches on television and I know all the players,” claims Dominique.
With plans to produce artworks for Alessandro Florenzi, Edin Dzeko and Miralem Pjanic later this year, we can certainly look forward to more exciting pieces in the future.
