The German national team have informed Roma that defender Antonio Rudiger has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, following a full medical examination of the player on Wednesday.
Following further assessment of the 23-year-old’s injury, the German Football Association released a statement confirming their initial evaluation - that the defender had suffered the injury to the ACL in his right knee.
Roma's medical staff are in contact with the Germany team doctors and will make a full evaluation of their own over the coming days, before deciding on the appropriate rehabilitation plan for the versatile defender.
Rudiger - who made 37 appearances in all competitions for the Giallorossi last season - suffered the injury on Tuesday, during Germany's first training session after landing in France ahead of this summer's European Championship.
On Wednesday he posted a defiant message on social media, saying, “You may see me struggle, but you will never see me quit!”
