AS Roma has today been named one of the fastest growing football clubs in the world on social media.
A new report, released today by digital agency RESULT Sports, counts down the top 150 best performing European football clubs on social media and Roma scored highly in every category.
While Real Madrid and Barcelona added the highest number of new fans overall amongst the Top 20 clubs on social media, Roma finished second only to Premier League champions Leicester City in terms of percentage growth during 2016.
While Claudio Ranieri’s side saw an incredible 487% increase in social followers as they claimed an unforgettable title win, Roma were No.2 for percentage growth with 32%. Reigning French champions Paris Saint-Germain came in at No.3 with 29% growth.
Roma were also ranked No.2 for percentage growth amongst the top 25 clubs on Facebook during 2016 – with a 33.6% increase in followers during the calendar year.
Just as they did in the overall social media table, Leicester City claimed the No.1 position.
On Twitter, Roma were ranked No.3 for percentage growth amongst the top 20 most followed clubs on the platform. While Roma saw a 34% growth in Twitter followers during 2016, Juventus and Manchester City were ranked No.1 and No.2 respectively for percentage growth.
