Mohamed Salah was named African Player of the Year for 2017 during an awards ceremony in Ghana on Thursday night

The former Giallorossi winger, who left the club in the summer to join Liverpool, won the prestigious prize for the first time in his career - winning the Confederation of African Football vote ahead of club teammate Sadio Mane and Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

"Winning this award is a dream come true, 2017 was an unbelievable year for me," Salah said.

"I would like to dedicate it to all the kids in Africa and Egypt, I want to tell them to never stop dreaming, never stop believing."

Salah scored 15 goals during the 2016-17 campaign with Roma, providing a further 11 assists.
