Perhaps the first natural goalscorer in the club’s history, Rodolfo Volk is a name all true fans of the club are well aware of. 

Volk scored Roma’s first ever goal in Serie A (October 1929), the first ever goal at Campo Testaccio (November 1929), the first ever goal in the Derby della Capitale (December 1929) and became the first Roma player to finish as the league’s top goalscorer (1930-31).

In total, he averaged 0.66 goals per game for the club – second behind only Pedro Manfredini (0.67gpg) in the club’s entire history. He ended up scoring 106 goals for the club (103 in Serie A) – becoming, you guessed it, the first centurion in the club’s history.

To define him purely as a goalscorer would be unfair, however. Born in Fiume (then part of Italy, now known as Rijeka, in Croatia), he joined Roma in 1928 after a long spell in his hometown. In the end, he was acquired for 127,000 lire.

Strong, well-built and with a rifle of a right foot, he was the prototype of a goalscorer and quickly earned the love of the fans at Campo Testaccio, who would sing his name almost every game. During his last match for the club, in June 1933, he walked off to a long, lasting round of applause – a tribute that lasts to this day.
