Svilar speaks ahead of Union Saint-Gilloise v Roma

Mile Svilar was in attendance for Roma’s pre-match press conference ahead of their Europa League Matchday 4 showdown against Union Saint-Gilloise.

Here’s what our keeper had to say:

From your position in goal, were you able to get an idea of the team's lack of balance in recent games? Is there a chance you could ever turn out for the Belgian national team?

"We've been a bit unlucky in these last few games - we have to do better, but we're still adapting. Things will get better very soon. We want to get on a winning run tomorrow, raise our morale and take things game by game, focusing only on winning. Unfortunately, I can't answer your second question."

You’re one of Roma’s strengths – do you feel like a reference point in the team? Also, do you feel that there’s something awry with the referee decisions that have come our way recently?

"I feel normal and I try to focus on working day by day with the coach and everyone else in training in order to win matches, because that’s what we need.

“As for the second matter, I don't know what I can say – there have been some unfair decisions including what happened last Sunday, when their second goal should’ve been chalked off. Had it been disallowed then it might’ve been a different game. It's not the only incident that's happened this season. Sometimes we feel like everything is against Roma at the moment and it’s not nice. That being said, we have to focus on what we can control, do well on the pitch and then the results will improve. If you think about what you can't control you're less focused on the football itself and right now that’s not the right approach."

Looking back at your career, if you had your time again would you have left Anderlecht so soon? How do you see your future?

"I realise that whenever I come back to Belgium I’ll be asked this question, but I’m no longer focused on the past. My only thoughts are with the future."

After the game in Florence Lorenzo Pellegrini made some head-turning comments. Have you had a word with each other?

"Yes, we spoke in the dressing room with the coach and we chat every day. We had a bad game in Florence – we weren’t ourselves. In the two games since we reacted in a positive and different manner, but on Sunday there were episodes that were out of our hands and we can't change what happened. We can change what we do on the pitch, so that’s our only focus.”
