There were few signs of nerves for the Giallorosse as they made their historic bow in the competition on Thursday night, running out 3-1 winners against hosts Glasgow City on an occasionally wet and windy night in Scotland.
The side will now face Paris FC at the same Petershill Park venue on Sunday night, with a place in hte knock-out round of the competition on the line.
The winner of that subsequent two-legged tie will earn a place in the group stage of the competition.
"It was an historic game tonight," Spugna said.
"It was always going to take so much to put in a great game and win, but we were able to do it. The girls were just great, they were focused throughout and technically very sound.
"We could have scored another goal or two in the first half, but we did well to not let that us affect us. We kept our heads done, kept possession of the ball, and in the end the chances arrived. We took advantage of those and it ended up being a great result."
He added: "This was a top level game, our first in the Champions League, and so we were fully focused. I liked how we played. We made some mistakes, but that is always going to happen in a game like this."
With Paris FC now on the horizon, the Giallorosse will have to up their game once more.
"It will definitely be a tough game," Spugna acknowledged.
"We know Paris, we know they are a great side. Right now, we are going to enjoy this win.
"But tomorrow will start thinking about the game and studying Paris, to make sure we are ready for the match. Because we want to stay in this competition, so we have to do everything we can to win the match."
Per la Roma un grande match, che la porta a superare il turno nel giorno del debutto in Champions.
"Partita storica. Ci tenevamo tanto a fare una grande gara e a vincere, e ci siamo riuscite. Le ragazze sono state molto brave, hanno fatto una partita attenta e tecnicamente buona.
Potevamo fare qualche gol in più già nel primo tempo, però poi siamo state brave a restare tranquille, serene, continuando a lavorare e a mantenere il possesso palla. Le occasioni sono arrivate, le abbiamo sfruttate e abbiamo ottenuto un ottimo risultato".
Cosa le è piaciuto di più della sua squadra?
"Tutto. L'atteggiamento è stato ottimo, ma non avevo dubbi: era una partita di livello internazionale - la prima in Champions - e quindi l'attenzione era massima. Mi è piaciuta la qualità del gioco espressa. Abbiamo sbagliato qualcosina, ma ci sta in una gara di questo tipo.
Loro erano molto fisiche e abbiamo iniziato la partita in un clima veramente rigido: pioveva forte. Quindi non era nemmeno semplice. Però siamo state bravissime a stare sempre in partita. Tutte, anche coloro che sono entrate".
La Roma conquista la finale di questo mini-torneo, contro il Paris FC. Sarà una gara molto diversa da questa.
"Sì, sarà certamente molto difficile. Conosciamo il Paris FC, è una squadra forte. Adesso godiamoci questa serata. Da domani inizieremo a pensare, a studiare qualcosa del Paris, così da arrivarci pronte. Perché vogliamo restare in questa Champions, e quindi vogliamo provare a vincere la partita".
