Putting fans at the heart of Giallorossi sustainability

AS Roma fans will be key players in the construction of the club's new sustainability strategy.

AS Roma fans will be key players in the construction of the club's new Sustainability Strategy.

After announcing its collaboration with UEFA - which will see Roma pilot key aspects of the European football governing body’s Sustainability Strategy 2030 – the club is now announcing its plan to engage with fans and to put their perspective at the heart of its new sustainability strategy.

The Giallorossi will be the first football club to engage its fans with a data-driven survey as part of its sustainability strategy development process.

At Thursday’s Europa League match against Real Betis, fans will be invited to respond to a survey, that will be distributed by email and through social media, allowing the club to better define its priorities and understand the expectations of its supporters.

At the match, Giallorossi supporters will also be able to experience first-hand a number of activations on and off the pitch which demonstrate the club’s ongoing commitment in this area.

Collaborating to Raise Awareness of Common Environmental Goals in Rome and Seville

On Wednesday, in the iconic location of Villa Mazzanti in the centre of Rome, AS Roma and Real Betis took part in the symbolic planting of a tree.

Organised in collaboration with Roma Natura, the event represented a commitment from both clubs on the shared values of environmental protection and green space restoration.

At the away match, which will take place on the 13th of October, the two clubs will then plant a tree in the city of Seville.

Championing Inclusion Through 'Overcoming the Obstacles'

On matchday, a special helpdesk to assist fans with disabilities will be set up at the entrance of the Tribuna Tevere, where visually impaired and blind fans will receive radio devices to improve their experience of the match, through bespoke commentary.

This initiative, launched in recent months, is part of a community and inclusion project ‘Overcoming The Obstacles', which also offers a transport service to and from the Stadio Olimpico for all home matches.

Using Entertainment to Engage Fans in the Conversation

During the match warm-up, for the first time ever on a football pitch, the flag-wavers will use 16 large flags made of an innovative material coated in pollution-busting formula, which removes harmful nitrogen oxide from the air, dramatically cutting air-pollution.

After their use at the stadium, the flags will continue to fly and purify the air at the club's Trigoria training centre.

    The Circular Economy

Initiatives will also take place in the hospitality areas of the Stadio Olimpico, during the match.

Guests will enjoy the creation of a Giallorossi-themed work of art composed solely of end-of-life objects, including sports material from Trigoria. The work will then be auctioned off and the proceeds donated to charity.

This activity has been designed to showcase how waste can be repurposed to create objects of value and interest. This circular economy principle is also a core focus of the club's sustainability strategy, due to launch later this year.

The dinner menu in the VIP hospitality area will be based on seasonal, local and low carbon impact ingredients.

Additionally, as during all of the side's home matches, all surplus food will be donated to charitable organisations identified in cooperation with ACLI Provinciali di Roma.
