International Women's Day: Club signs agreement with Roma Capitale

On International Women’s Day, AS Roma has signed an agreement with Roma Capitale’s Department for Equal Opportunities and Productivity that will see the two organisations work together to deliver initiatives that will tackle violence against women in the city of Rome.

On International Women’s Day 2022, AS Roma has signed an agreement with Roma Capitale’s Department for Equal Opportunities and Productivity that will see the two organisations work together to deliver initiatives to tackle violence against women in the city of Rome.

The goal will be to map out a collaborative approach, with the strategic objective of quickly and effectively creating new methods for addressing the scourge of violence against women.

The agreement was signed at the Galileo Galilei Institute on Tuesday morning in front of 80 students of the school, along with the Monica Lucarelli from Roma Capitale, Roma Women captain Elisa Bartoli and Francesco Pastorella, Roma’s Director of Sustainability and Community Relations.

“We want to redouble our efforts to deliver information to schools, to promote the topic of equal rights and to implement social courses to help the victims of violence. I am sure we will achieve a lot working together,” said Monica Lucarelli.

“AS Roma have always been very alert to social issues and I am convinced that this latest initiative will provide many tangible results.”

Bartoli added: “I am very proud to be a player and captain of a club that is trying to help those in need on a daily basis. Roma is always in the frontline in that regard.

“Establishing the importance of the rights of women to those still at school is a crucial aspect, because children are pure in that regard and can effect so much change. Battling against the problem of violence against women is something that we need to work together to do.”

“Alongside the city council we have pledged to do so something concrete in the area,” added Pastorella.

“Since 2020 this club has promoted campaigns to address the problem of violence against women, and to help those women to escape situations and find new opportunities in the workplace. We are a pillar of the community and we have a responsibility to do everything we can – including going into schools to help raise awareness among the youngest in society.”

The strategy, which is expected to contain a number of strands, is the latest effort from the club in this area. A commitment that began with the ‘Amami e Basta’ (‘Just Love Me’) campaign, a long-standing social project that was first implemented with support from the ManpowerGroup and Human Age Foundation.

The project included a foundation course designed to help the victims of violence find new work opportunities: 57% of the women who took part in the course subsequently found stable employment.
