Roma Women 2-0 Inter: Giallorosse make big step forward

Gaining revenge after a late defeat against the opposition earlier in the season, the Giallorosse put some breathing space between them and their rivals for a top-two finish - while also closing the gap on league leaders Juventus, who suffered a rare defeat to Empoli earlier in the day.

Andressa Alves (from the penalty spot) and Manuela Giugliano scored the goals for Alessandro Spugna's side, who also saw Annamaria Serturini hit the post.

"I'm delighted to score and to help the team as well," Andressa said.

"It was an important game. We are really playing well together at the moment. I think today was another fine performance."

Roma are now just three points off the top of the table with seven games - including next week's game against Juventus - still to play.

They are also two points ahead of Sassuolo in the race for a Champions League qualification berth, with AC Milan a further three points adrift.

The victory extended their league run to nine in succession.

"It was a great display," Spugna said.

"We didn't have a great deal of time to prepare such a key game. The girls managed the game with intelligence. There were a lot of important passages we needed to stay on top of.

"Manuela scored a fantastic goal and that always helps. But the great thing is that Inter hardly managed a shot on goal either."

On the upcoming match with Juventus, he added: "It'll be a great contest to be involved in - a showdown against a close rival. We will prepare for it with everything we have.

"But, as I've said, we want to enjoy being part of that sort ofmoment as well."
