Bavagnoli: A win to give us momentum

Betty Bavagnoli was pleased with the determination her side showed, as Roma Women beat Napoli 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Captain Elisa Bartoli scored the decisive goal midway through the second half, after Annamaria Serturini and Andressa Alves (from the penalty spot) had earlier helped put the Giallorosse ahead.

“It’s a win that we were really focused on, we are delighted because it will give us momentum and a morale boost,” Bavagnoli said.

“We still suffered at times today, I can say that honestly – and we have to give praise to Napoli, who don’t deserve to be where they are in the league.

“But the thing I was happiest about was the way we never gave up, we always believed we would win and we did.”

What areas still need to be improved?

“The disappointing thing is clearly that we conceded another goal from a set-piece, while there were other moments where we could have stamped our authority on the game more.

"Sometimes we seemed almost scared to win the match. We messed up a few passes or went for the difficult option when if we had played a bit simpler we could have made life easier for ourselves.

“So we need to work on the mentality more, to make sure we are able to play any opponent and maintain the same clear thought process that you need to cope with all the different challenges a game throws up.”
