Roma World: Meet Hillan Morean from Trinidad and Tobago

The latest edition of Roma World takes us all the way to the southernmost island of the Caribbean to meet a local government official with an unmatched passion for the Giallorossi...

Name: Hillan Cadena Morean

Age: 34

City: Port of Spain

Country: Trinidad and Tobago

Where did you grow up?

"My parents are from the south of the country, but I grew up in Port of Spain. I am actually now the Deputy Mayor of Port of Spain, and have been a local government representative since 2013."

Why did you choose Roma?

"I didn’t. Roma chose me. Ever since I watched my first Derby della Capitale in 1998 between Roma and Lazio, I have been in love with the club."

What is your first memory of Roma?

"The memory that stands out the most was the final matchday of our Scudetto-winning 2001 season vs. Parma. The score was 3-1 and there we are about seven minutes left on the clock. Suddenly, the crowd descended on the field, and it was complete euphoria. The fans at Stadio Olimpico, along with myself watching from home were all a part of that amazing moment together."

Who was your first Roma hero and why?

"Francesco Totti. A captain with calm, resolve, grace, and passion, all in one."

Do Roma have a passionate fan base in Trinidad and Tobago?

"In Trinidad and Tobago, I am 10,000 fans in one. Our fan-base isn’t as large because most people followed the Premier League because of Dwight Yorke, our local hero who played for Manchester United. Much of that support has carried into English teams today. However, those who support Roma are incredibly passionate. My goal is to help set up a Roma Club in the Caribbean!"

What is your favourite Roma kit of all time?

"I love the 2005-06 and 2013-14 home kits!"

Who is your favourite current Roma player and why?

"I actually have three! Zaniolo, Pelligrini and Kluivert. They represent the future of the club. Pellegrini in particular as he follows in the legacy of others who came from the youth level all the way up to the first team."

If you could meet anyone connected to Roma - past or present - who would it be and why?

"I’ve dreamt of meeting two former players - Totti, because he’s my hero, and Agostino Di Bartolomei, so I could listen to stories about his passion for Roma, and that historic Scudetto in 1982-83."

What makes you most proud to be a Roma supporter?

"Roma is UNIQUE. Roma is an enigma. Roma is not for the faint of heart. Roma fans are the most passionate, and most loyal in the world. We understand true love, true pain, and true triumph. I’m so proud to be a member of this incredible family."
