Bavagnoli: First half display is what we are striving for

Roma Women coach Betty Bavagnoli was pleased with her side’s efforts following Sunday’s 2-1 win over Sassuolo at Stadio Tre Fontane.

The Giallorosse kept pace with the early leaders in Serie A with their fourth straight win of the campaign, thanks to goals from Kaja Erzen and Vanessa Bernauer.

Sassuolo cut the deficit in the final 20 minutes after an unfortunate own goal from Camelia Ceasar, with a penalty miss just moments after also letting Roma off the hook.

“These three points are important, I have to congratulate the girls on their performance – especially in the first half,” Bavagnoli said.

“You can see the strides we are making but we still need to improve, and we are doing that with determination and courage. I’m a bit disappointed at the chances we conceded in the second half. We lacked a bit of conviction, we still need to work on a few things.

“If we want to make a leap in quality then we need to play like we did in the first half throughout the game. We will keep working on our errors and areas we can improve – although we shouldn’t forget we were playing a good side today.”
