Here's our final cut - six men from different eras who in one way or another left their mark on both teams.
Dubbed the Gentle Giant, John Charles played for Juventus from 1957 to 1962 winning three league titles and a Coppa Italia. He also finished his first year in Italy as Serie A's top marksman. He joined Roma in 1962-63 and scored four goals in ten games during his brief spell in the capital. Charles was the first of just two British players to have donned the Giallorossi jersey. More than half a century would pass before Ashley Cole followed in his footsteps.
Signed by Roma in 1967 when Helenio Herrera was at the helm, Fabio Capello won his first piece of silverware, the Coppa Italia, in his second season at the club. After his third year with the Giallorossi, president Alvaro Marchini gave in to Juventus' courting of the player and sold him to the Bianconeri, sparking the fans' wrath. Capello went on to win three Scudetto titles at Juventus.
One of the longest-serving outfield players in Serie A history, Pietro Vierchowod spent just a single season at both Roma and Juventus. In the summer of 1982 Giallorossi coach Nils Liedholm was looking for a robust defender to take some of the pressure off Agostino Di Bartolomei. Cue the arrival of 'The Tsar' in the capital. Vierchowod quickly established himself as a mainstay of the Roma rearguard and played a key role as the Giallorossi claimed their second Scudetto. After 12 years at Sampdoria, he joined Juventus and helped them win the Champions League in 1996.
In 1982 Zbigniew Boniek seemed all set to sign for Roma but an agreement couldn't be reached with president Dino Viola so instead he joined Juventus. He stayed in Turin for three years, winning a league title, a Coppa Italia, a European Cup, a Cup Winners' Cup and a European Super Cup, but he was destined to become a Giallorossi player and in 1985 'Zibi' moved south. Boniek made 76 appearances for Roma and scored 17 goals, lifting the Coppa Italia in 1986.
For three seasons, from 1994 to 1997, Daniel Fonseca formed a dream strike partnership with Abel Balbo. The Uruguayan forward racked up 65 games in yellow and red, notching 20 goals in the process. Particularly memorable was his strike in a 3-0 derby victory over Lazio. He went on to play for Juventus from 1997 to 2001, where he won a Scudetto and an Italian Super Cup.
Shortly after arriving in the Italian capital in the summer of 2000, Emerson injured his knee and missed the first six months of the campaign. He made up for lost time after his debut in January the following year and helped Roma claim their third Scudetto. He joined the Bianconeri in 2004 and spent two seasons in Turin.
