Rüdiger, born to a German father and mother from Sierra Leone, is considered one of the most promising talents in German football and has already made six appearances for the German national side, having made his international debut in May 2014.
The defender, who began his footballing career in the youth acadamies of Herta Zehlendorf and Borussia Dortumund before joining Stuttgart, is the sixth German player to represent AS Roma. Rüdiger follows in the footsteps of notable German talents Jürgen Schutz, Karl-Heinz Schnellinger, Thomas Berthold, Rudi Voeller and Thomas Häßler.

After enjoying a successful year with Stuttgart reserves, Rüdiger made his Bundesliga debut against Borussia Monchengladbach in January 2012, before establishing himself in the first-team squad during the 2012-13 season.
In total, Rüdiger made 66 league appearances for Stuttgart and scored two goals. The 22-year-old has also featured in eight Europa League games.
Rüdiger represented the German national team at various levels before making his senior international debut for Joachim Löw’s side on May 13, 2014, when he was just 21 years old.
After sealing his move to the Giallorossi, Rüdiger told Roma TV: “I’m absolutely delighted to be able to wear the Roma jersey. I’ve come here to win titles, to win the Scudetto. I would like to thank all the Roma fans and promise them that I will give everything for this club.”
