Strootman to make national team return - two years on

Kevin Strootman has been called up for the Dutch national side - two and a half years on from his last international appearance.

Netherlands head coach Danny Blind has named the Giallorossi midfielder in his squad for their trio of friendlies against the Republic of Ireland, Poland and Austria at the end of May and start of June.

Strootman's inclusion marks his return to the international fold, 26 months after his previous call-up.

On 5 March 2014, Kevin played 39 minutes against France before coming off through injury. Four days later, he suffered the injury at Napoli which led to three operations in under 18 months.

The Dutchman made his Roma comeback against Palermo at home in February 2016, before starting against Genoa and AC Milan in May.

Relaxed and once again with a smile on his face, the midfielder has travelled to Dubai with Roma for their friendly against Al Ahly on Friday. He will join up with his fellow countrymen for the friendlies upon his return from the UAE, before looking ahead to the autumn's World Cup qualifiers.
