The Montenegrin, who played for Roma from 2006 to 2011, did not win the Scudetto while at the Stadio Olimpico - but feels his old coach Luciano Spalletti's current crop of players have a better chance.
Vucinic, who went on to play for Juventus, believes a great game is in store when the two sides meet on Saturday.
“I came close to tasting glory at Roma, but we were always missing that 0.1%," Vucinic said. "Spalletti may well have found it now. I’m seeing a team that’s performing extremely well – they play the best football in Italy and they’re fantastic to watch on the TV.”
Do you see any differences between Spalletti now and the Spalletti that used to yell at you for not tracking back?
“Obviously you mature and develop with age, but Spalletti has always been a top coach. I don’t think you can criticise him for anything.
"Both my Roma team and this one are first-rate sides.”
Which Roma players will carry the biggest threat against Juventus?
“[Edin] Dzeko and [Radja] Nainggolan, the striker and the trequartista. In my eyes, that’s where the contest is going to be played out. A lot will come down to how well the Juventus defence – which is still very strong – can withstand Roma’s pressure. Personally I’m hoping for draw so that the title race stays competitive and we can all enjoy watching it.”
Do you think the dynamic of the rivalry would be different if Roma were already playing at their new stadium?
“It would make all the difference in the world. It really hit me the first time I went to Juventus Stadium. If Roma had had their own stadium all this time, they’d have racked up a lot more points than they have. At least ten more in the league. In fact, they might even have won the Scudetto.”
