Salah named on final shortlist for African Player of the Year award

Salah

Mohamed Salah has been named on the final five-man shortlist for the prestigious African Player of the Year award.

Salah, who has eight goals already for Roma in Serie A this season, made the cut as the shortlist was reduced from 30 names to just five - alongside the reigning holder of the prize, Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez.

Liverpool's Sadio Mane and Mahrez's Leicester teammate Islam Slimani (who spent the first half of the year at Sporting Lisbon) complete the list of nominees.

The final winner of the award, which will be announced at the start of 2017, will be decided by an expert panel, along with votes from the head coaches and technical directors of Africa's 54 national associations and associate members
