The Slovenian striker headed home after just nine minutes to give Alberto De Rossi's side the lead on a wet and windy afternoon in Rome - an advantage they would hold onto until the end in a close and combative game.
Afterwards De Rossi expressed his delight at the resolve shown by his young players.
“The team did well to see out the game,” De Rossi said. “Having now played four games against Torino this season, perhaps this was their best performance against us of them all.
“But football can be like this, especially on a poor pitch which isn’t necessarily suited to our style of play: the game demands you react to every situation you are put in.
“The only thing I could ask of my players is to capitalise better on the opportunities that we create, but I saw a huge spirit to fight for each other during this game.”
