Perotti: We must defend leads better

Diego Perotti believes Roma must learn to protect their leads - after squandering another one to draw 1-1 with Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Argentine gave his side the advantage at the Doosan Arena with a coolly-taken penalty but, like in previous games this season against Cagliari and Porto, that upper hand was not enough - as the Czech champions eventualy secured a draw.

Perotti knows the side need to work on their game management when they hold the lead if they are to realise their potential this season.

"We didn't play well," Perotti said. "We scored early but we should have managed our lead better.

"It's the fourth or fifth time we've scored first and they've equalised. We have to make progress on that."

The visitors often seemed to create dangerous openings on the break, but struggled to produce the final ball that could unlock the defence and present a decisive goalscoring opportunity.

"We didn't play our best game," Perotti acknowledged. "They did well to stay focused and defended very well, so we couldn't find enough space. Either way, we didn't struggle at all.

"That said, we must win every game and we mustn't make these mistakes in our forthcoming fixtures."
