The Giallorossi are set to host the Nerazzurri at the Olimpico in a match that many have dubbed as key in the race for Champions League football next season, but Roma's stand-in captain insists third place won't be determined either way this weekend.
“The game against Inter comes at the perfect time for us,” Florenzi declared in an interview with Sky Sport. “We've got massive self-belief at the moment and we want to keep going. Inter are a great team and they have a great coach but no matter how the match goes it won't decide who qualifies for the Champions League.”
What's the secret to your eight-match winning streak in the league?
“The eight wins are the result of the hard work we're putting in every day, focusing on each game as it comes. We're just aiming to keep winning as many matches as possible and keep on this path we're on at the moment.”
What has Spalletti brought to Roma?
“Spalletti's come in with his working methods, he's stamped his ideas on the team and we're responding well to what he wants. The gaffer has given us a clear playing philosophy. He's got us well drilled defensively and has given us new attacking moves.”
Do you think Juventus could be psychologically affected by getting knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern in such incredible fashion?
“I think Juventus and Roma are both disappointed to go out of the competition because we both had the chance to go through. Getting knocked out can affect you psychologically, yes. We managed to pick ourselves up again immediately; now we'll see how Juve respond.”
What does it mean to you to captain the team?
“The captain's armband means the same to me as it does to [Francesco] Totti and [Daniele] De Rossi. They've explained to me what it means and how important it is. Wearing it makes me even more motivated.”
